We are a group of Ladies from amongst the congregations of St Thomas a Becket, Hampsthwaite and St. Thomas the Apostle, Killinghall Churches who meet monthly in the Church Room at Hampsthwaite. We invite a wide variety of speakers to our meetings who talk to us on topics such as The Fire Service, various charities including Talking Newspapers, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, Cats Protection etc.
We support various Church activities and the Harrogate Homeless Scheme.
For many years we have provided a follow-up service by keeping in touch with those who are baptised and/or married in our Church and we support Mothering Sunday and various overseas charities by the provision of money, ostensibly for the purchase of 'goats and chickens'.
Mothers' Union arranges social activities for its members and guests by visits to such places as the Nidderdale Museum at Pateley Bridge , Markenfield Hall and Ripley Castle .
The aim of Mothers' Union is to strengthen and preserve marriage and family life through Christianity. It's five objects are:-
1 To uphold Christ's teaching on the nature of marriage and promote its wider understanding;
2 To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church;
3 To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service;
4 To promote conditions in Society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children; and
5 To help those whose family life has met with adversity.
